Greetings and Happy Holidays!
Thanks to the continued support of the Torch Program by wonderful donors, our Torch Scholars continue to become global citizens. The students highlighted below have been able to have some truly transformative international experiences over the past year. Read on to find out more about our student travels. Have a wonderful holiday season, and a peaceful new year!
Edgar Maldonado – Class of 2021
Traveled to Morocco, Paris, and Amsterdam for a Summer Dialogue of Civilizations
Edgar writes:
“I learned and enjoyed the differences between our cultures and language. I also learned about views on terrorism in different countries, and how Muslim people felt being blamed for terrorism in the US media.”
Also on that Dialogue, Martha Pena – Class of 2019, second from the right.
Antoine “Tony” Jones – Class of 2019
Studying abroad at Bond University on the Gold Coast of Australia
Tony shares:
“It was an amazing opportunity to venture from Bond’s campus to experience some of the natural beauty in Queensland. I was able to see some huge trees and some amazing waterfalls. I really enjoyed the natural spring, which was the highlight of the trip. Even though it was springtime, the water was still a bit freezing.”
Place: Springbrook National Rainforest in Springbrook, Queensland, Australia
Malik Shaw — Class of 2021
Traveled to Dublin, Ireland for his co-op (Ebert lab – BWH – Harvard Institute of medicine)
Malik emailed:
“I enjoyed my stay in Dublin. It is a very friendly and interesting city. I enjoyed viewing the Book of Kells in Trinity college and just seeing the historical library.”
Sarah “Ricki” Garey
Traveled to London, UK
Ricki shares:
“I enjoyed seeing the diverse streets of London, and acquainting myself with their language, transportation, work routine, and nightlife. Travelling abroad exposed me to a different lifestyle – one that reassures me I’m secure with who I am, comfortable with change, and appreciate what other cultures have to offer. During the Summer of 2018 I plan to visit Paris to fulfill my Global Fashion Studies minor.”
